the inspiration....
i love anything neon and lord do i wish i could afford his jewelry, but Tom Binns necklaces like the ones above can run up to $2200! so i thought to myself, how can i get my hands on one of these babies and not have to live off of rice for the next year??? lightbulb.... PROJECT.
so freakin easy even my Grandma could do it.
here's what you need:
1. super bright nail polish- take a trip to your local Claire's like i did to fill in the missing colors you want for real cheap.
2. the jewels- if you wanna make a high end version of this necklace you could buy the Rachel Leigh version here on sale for $112.
since i already own the above version and i wasn't about to do a test run on one of my favorite necklaces, i went to Forever 21 where i knew they would have something similiar. i lucked out and got this necklace for $12 and the earrings for $7. i even bought extras for my Sister & Roomie and i to make together (both these pieces below are in stores right now btw).
3. easy breezy- map out your pattern and color scheme before you start bc there's no going back. you will need to do 2 coats of polish on each stone so that the crystals won't show through. the nail polish will dry super quick, but allow a few minutes to dry before doing the 2nd coat. DO NOT use topcoat or quickdry or anything of the sort to finish, i ruined the first-run necklace by doing that and the whole thing came out feeling very sticky and gross. let the necklace dry over night without touching it!
the results.......
TADA. such a fun project and i love the results! i haven't decided what color to do my earrings yet though... i'm thinking maybe just black and neon yellow??
anyway, i'm so excited to wear my new necklace out. looks like a million bucks and it only cost me $12. total success.
Happy Halloween!! enjoy.
